The 6.7 PowerStroke is a great engine but is crippled by its intrusive and poorly designed emissions systems – as with most modern diesels. Delete kits not only improve reliability, maintenance, and fuel economy, but they can also offer performance gains. DEF is towards the top of the list of maintenance items that can be a hassle.

So, what goes into deleting your 6.7 PowerStroke DEF? In this guide, we discuss 6.7 PowerStroke DEF delete kits, benefits, and what is required to successfully delete your diesel exhaust fluid system.

6.7L PowerStroke DEF Basics

Diesel exhaust fluid lives in a tank that sits just in front of the rear differential. It’s part of the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system. The DEF system uses a pump and injector to spray the fluid into the exhaust stream just after the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).

Ultimately, deleting the 6.7 PowerStroke DPF also deletes the DEF, DOC, and SCR systems. In other words, it’s rare to see any kits or products designed to directly delete the diesel exhaust fluid. Instead, you simply delete the DPF and block-off the DEF and SCR systems. This means the tank, injector, and pump still remain in place but they’re no longer used.

6.7 PowerStroke DPF, DEF, SCR Delete Kits

Again, deleting your 6.7 PowerStroke DEF system revolves around deleting the DPF. As such, in this section we will discuss the best DPF delete kit to ultimately remove the DPF, DEF, SCR, and DOC. There are two key pieces to deleting all these components:

  • DPF Delete or Full Exhaust System
  • DPF Delete Tuner

The first piece of the puzzle is removing the actual hardware from the engine. This all revolves around the portion of the exhaust that houses the DPF, SCR, and DOC. As such, a DPF delete pipe is just a simple straight-pipe exhaust that deletes all this emissions equipment. Then, you will need custom tuning to properly adjust for the changes without causing performance issues or triggering check engine lights.

DPF-Cat Delete Pipes

Diesel Patriots offers their DPF/Cat Delete Pipe for an excellent price of $285. You can also upgrade to a full 4″ or 5″ exhaust system for $725 or $775, respectively. Furthermore, Diesel Patriots offers the option to add a muffler if you want to keep the sounds toned down a little. The piping is made from T409 stainless steel, which makes it durable and corrosion-resistant.

DPF Delete Tuning

Of course, from the factory, the 6.7 PowerStroke monitors and controls all of these emissions systems. The stock ECU is not made to handle deletes, which means you’ll need a custom tune. Once again, Diesel Patriots offers excellent tuning for deleted 6.7 PowerStroke diesels.

They use the EZ Lynk AutoAgent 3 and include FREE custom tuning with the purchase of their tune or complete delete kits. Diesel Patriots even offers lifetime tuning adjustments, which means you don’t need to shell out an additional $300-500+ every time you need small tuning tweaks. Offering this is unique in the industry and really sets Diesel Patriots apart from the competition.

Should I Get a Full Delete Kit?

Now, deleting DEF all revolves around deleting the DPF, DOC, SCR, and DEF systems together. It requires custom tuning, so why not take things a step further and delete EGR, too? Great question. In our opinion, once you delete the DPF (and ultimately all the aforementioned systems) it makes sense to get a full delete kit and also get rid of the EGR system.

Diesel Patriots offer a complete delete kit for the 6.7 PowerStroke starting at just $1,569. If you opt to upgrade to the full exhaust system it brings the price closer to ~$2,000, which is an incredible value. This delete kit includes the DPF delete pipe, EGR delete, and the EZ Lynk tuner with FREE custom tuning. Again, this is truly the best value and we highly recommend deleting EGR and opting for the full kit if you’re planning on doing any deletes to start with.

6.7 PowerStroke DEF Delete Summary

Unfortunately, like many modern diesels, the 6.7 PowerStroke is crippled by its expensive and complicated emissions systems. Among them is the SCR system and diesel exhaust fluid. Deleting this emissions equipment can offer significant improvements in reliability, maintenance, fuel economy, and performance.

Deleting the 6.7 PowerStroke DEF system really revolves around deleting the DPF. A DPF delete will effectively delete the DPF, DOC, SCR, and DEF. All it truly requires to delete this equipment is an exhaust pipe that replaces the factory DPF. Diesel Patriots offers an excellent DPF-Cat Delete Pipe for $285.

However, deleting the DPF also requires custom tuning to avoid check engine lights and allow the engine to run properly. Diesel Patriots also offers great tuning solutions with the EZ Lynk device and they offer free custom tuning. At this point, we highly recommend deleting the EGR system too which can be done easily with the full delete kit from Diesel Patriots.

Legal Note: Deleting emissions equipment is illegal for on-road use in the U.S. and may result in fines. It’s strictly for off-road or competition use only. Always check local laws before proceeding. This article is for informational purposes only.
